Philosophy & Site

Nocturne is the personal vision of acclaimed Australian winemaker Julian Langworthy, bringing together decades of experience, close relationships with exceptional growers, and a lifelong connection to Margaret River. Nocturne captures the purity and character of some of the region’s most distinguished sites, reflecting Julian’s deep understanding of the landscape, soils, and fruit that have established Margaret River as one of the world’s great wine regions. Julian crafts vibrant, stylish, and engaging wines that are a true delight to drink.

Winemaking

The Chardonnays are pressed as bunches directly to new, one- and two-year-old puncheons, with no settling or fining processes. wild fermented, and left on gross lees unsulphured until emptied, settled, filtered and bottled. The new oak use is fairly minimal and each chardonnay comes with its own style, the coastal Forrest vineyard has raw power and drive, the inland Wilson vineyard a more subtle succulent style.

The SV Cabernet spends 14 days on skins then pressed to tank and settled briefly before being transferred to a combination of new, two- and three-year-old barrels to undergo malolactic fermentation. The wine is racked only once during this time and, after 16 months in oak, Only the best barrels selected for the final blend.
